YouTube Gets It’s Ban On

Germany, the land of Viennese Schnitzel, Lederhosens and free internet music videos.. wait! No more music videos you say? Forget the schnitzel, I’m unpacking my Lederhosens and canceling my travel plans!

Music videos, once a common part of the German YouTube scene, have recently been banned due to a falling out in talks between YouTube and Germany’s largest royalty collections group, GEMA. This incident is very similar to the disagreements between YouTube and one of the United Kingdom’s royalty groups, which also ended in a ban.

In this case however, the German group is requesting for royalty rates 50 times higher then those required by the British group. The two camps are still currently discussing the situation, but it is highly notable that it will be quite some time before the Germans can view their favourite artists whenever they feel like.
