Just today Google re-entered the world of betas by releasing yet another beta version of Chrome, Google’s first attempt at a web browser. Although the beta tag was removed from Chrome in December of 2008, Google decided to supply users with three different versions. The first is the stable version, which has minimal bugs, if any. The second is their new beta version, which is meant to attract users who are a bit more curious and can deal with some bugs. The third and final version of Chrome is geared towards develo
pers.
Google claims that their newest beta has reached speeds of up to 25% faster than the current stable version on the V8 benchmark, and up to 35% faster on the Sunspider benchmark. New features being released with the beta are auto-fill for forms, full page zoom, auto-scroll, and a new tab-dragging interface.
I am glad that Google has brought back the Chrome beta because I enjoy testing out future products. There is one HUGE issue though. Google still has not released a version of Chrome for the Mac, meaning that I can not even attempt to try out their new software. This has been the complaint of Mac users all over since the browser has been unveiled. Hopefully a Mac version will be debuted in the near future.
