G1 users get turn-by-turn navigation, changes initial thoughts

The debate over turn-by-turn for the iPhone is a confusing one, as we detailed a short while back. And as we speculated, G1 users finally got their turn-by-turn navigation on Tuesday. While I would love to have turn-by-turn on my iPhone, I took a second look at my initial thoughts by addressing the price; Telenav is charging $9.99 a month after a 30-day free trial. Telenav will most certainly be the provider of choice if the iPhone ever gets turn-by-turn, so the question is, are we willing to pay $10 bucks a month? Honestly, being the light traveler that I am, I might not want this. And for those of you who are, you most likely have a GPS of some kind, which, correct me if I’m wrong, you don’t pay monthly for. Bottom line; if you have a GPS unit already, is there any sense in paying extra dough for the same thing on your iPhone?

If this application ever comes over to the Apple end, I may be hesitant to jump right on board. I think it’s terrific that Telenav is offering 30-days to try it out and see if it’s really necessary for everyone. For now, I’ll stick with my Garmin.
