Safari 4 benched marked; dubbed fastest browser in existence

After running our own tests on the speed of Safari 4 vs. Firefox 3, Cnet confirmed our initial results by concluding that it is the fastest browser out there. In their tests, which revolved around the speed of Javascript rendering using Sunspider, they found that Safari 4 was “42 times faster than Internet Explorer 7, just over six times faster than Internet Explorer 8, 3.5 times faster than Firefox 3, and 1.2 times faster than Google Chrome.” Pretty interesting eh?

Here are their results (lower is better):

Honestly, I think comparing Safari 4 to older browsers such as IE 7 really makes Safari 4 stand out; in a biased way. At the same time, I’m amazed that it has Chrome and even Mozilla’s beta Minefield browser beat. Interesting results nonetheless.
