Paid Downloads Available on Youtube

youtube-logoGoogle rolled out another interesting feature on their Youtube front today, giving partners the option to charge people to download their videos. While the option for partners to allow their videos to be downloaded is nothing new, Youtube created a new category under the “My Videos” section, where purchased videos are stored.

For now, Youtube has only selected a handful of partners to offer their videos for some cash. This isn’t available to everyone yet. Also, we hopefully won’t find partners charging outrageous fees for their video downloads. I hope these numbers stay around the $1-3 mark. Google’s move is most likely due in part for some monetary gain. There isn’t much word yet regarding whether or not they will tax each download. Furthermore, all payments will be going through Google’s Checkout process, a relatively new initiative that they wish to gain popularity in.

For now, we won’t see many partners offering paid downloads, being that Google’s unknown selection process limits offerings to exclusive Youtubers. However, if you want your Youtube favorites saved in mp4 format to your desktop, then give it a go.
